The month of May was a month of civic activism and submission of gender budget initiatives in Delchevo, Shtip and Vinica!
Within the framework of the project "Through women's activism and civic initiatives to gender-inclusive and responsible municipalities", during May, a total of nine gender budget initiatives were submitted to the three municipalities, resulting from previously conducted research, gender analyses, public workshops and consultations with women from local communities.
📍 Initiatives were proposed in Shtip to improve safety and pedestrian infrastructure, develop a local service for assistance and care for elderly and frail people and people with disabilities, as well as humanely solve the problem of homeless dogs.
📍 Initiatives were submitted in Vinica to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and mothers with children, secure and mark parking spaces, and raise public awareness about gender-based and domestic violence.
📍 Three initiatives were submitted in Delchevo aimed at solving local challenges and improving the living conditions of citizens, especially women and girls, and they relate to: improving public hygiene on the territory of the Municipality of Delchevo, establishing and improving municipal public transportation, and improving public lighting in urban and rural areas.
These initiatives are proof that when citizens are involved in decision-making processes, better quality, more inclusive and more accountable local policies are created.
We continue to encourage the participation of women and citizens in the creation of local budgets and the development of their communities.

„"The submission of gender budget initiatives in three municipalities represents a significant step towards more inclusive and accountable local governance. Prior to their submission, over 60 women from Shtip, Delchevo and Vinica, from rural and urban areas, were involved in the process, who actively participated in identifying local needs and jointly creating the initiatives. This enables women from local communities to directly contribute to policymaking and decision-making that affect the quality of life in their communities. Civic engagement is key to advancing gender equality, transparency and creating local budgets that reflect the needs of all citizens."“
